Firstly, congratulations and thank you to all who competed, volunteered and donated to Girls Gone Rx Pittsburgh last weekend. If you haven’t heard, the athletes and supporters raised over $15K towards research into breast and ovarian cancers. This is why they do it.

Secondly, I read a couple of articles this week about why people CrossFit. One lady found that she was able to stay calm, assess the situation and using the correct form she had learned in her CF classes, pick up and safely carry her grandmother after her grandmother had fallen and injured herself. 

Another, once a runner but now a ‘CrossFitter’, decided to run a half-marathon (13.1 miles) just to see how her CF training would hold up. She didn’t break any records and stopped on several occasions to take photos but she completed the distance and felt ready to do more.

Like these two people, 99% of us do CrossFit not to prepare for the CrossFit Games (lol 😂 ) but to prepare us for unexpected situations that crop up in our lives, like rescuing our dinghy from the middle of the Chesapeake Bay after it detached itself from our boat. Long story short: quite windy and wavy so climbing from the big boat down to and back up from the small one required coordination, flexibility, and strength – all skills learned and practiced during classes. 

None of us planned these events but we were able to deal with them in a calm and safe manner. That’s why we CrossFit. Why do you do it? Comment in the comment section or send me an email. 😊
