February Athlete of the Month

Paul Sabot

  1. Tell Us About yourself:

I grew up in the New Kensington area before moving to the Washington, D.C. area for work. I moved back to Pittsburgh and currently my wife and I are living in Cecil Twp.  Currently I work for Xerox Business Solutions as a Technical Service Manager.

  1. How would your best friends describe you?

Precise, fair, level headed and an occasional smart ass.

  1. What is one thing that people find surprising about you?

That a grandfather of 5 is doing CrossFit.

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

About 1.5 years.

  1. What made you start CrossFit?

I started watching my friends and family members develop preventable life threatening illnesses and I refused to give in to that type of lifestyle. At that point I decided to give it all I have and be serious about a fitness program that truly works. So after doing my research, reading Greg Glassman’s blogs I discovered I have one of the best boxes in my backyard.

  1. What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?

It is a fitness program attainable for any age with real results both physically and mentally if you stay committed.

  1. What is your favorite movement?

  1. What is your least favorite movement?

Any overhead weight bearing movement.

  1. What is your biggest accomplishment to date both CrossFit related and non-CrossFit related?

CrossFit-wise I found a fitness program that is attainable/sustainable that should keep me out of the nursing home indefinitely.

Non-CrossFit-wise is that I educated my two daughters who have gone off and are doing well raising their families and holding down professional careers.

  1. What is your next goal?

Doing the Open Rx’d.

  1. What is your favorite WOD you have done so far?

Anything with cycling in the mix.

  1. Free write: Here at my 1.5 year point surviving CrossFit classes 4x week I am occasionally susceptible to thinking I might be a laughable old fool being the oldest person by far at my usual 7pm class time.

Until….. I come to sit after a WOD among everyone.  Here is where I get to be reminded that this is not a dream, that I am not alone, and the fact we are all of us at every age, in this together.

I want to thank all the coaches and my 7pm class friends who have help me in the past year and half. It has been a great life changing experience.

(Ed Note: Congratulations Paul, love having you with us and love your perspective.)
