T2 CrossFit January Athlete of the Month: Adam Beck

1. Tell Us About yourself:  I grew up in Ohio, now live in Upper St. Clair with my wife Lindsay and my 7 year old son Ethan.  I work for CNX Resources on a team responsible for designing and building gas pipelines and compressor stations.

2. How would your best friends describe you?  I come across more serious than I really am.

3. What is one thing that people find surprising about you?  I was an Army infantry officer from 2004 to 2009 – went to Airborne and Ranger School and was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.

4. How long have you been doing CrossFit?  7 months

5. What made you start CrossFit?  I wanted to push myself.  3 days of lifting and 2-3 days of running each week was getting old.

6. What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?  Progression and Variety

7. What is your favorite movement?  So far – Power Clean

8. What is your least favorite movement?  Thrusters

9. What is your biggest accomplishment to date both CrossFit related and non-CrossFit related?

CrossFit:  Making it through 21-18-15 Pull-ups

Non-CrossFit:  It might sound cheesy and isn’t necessarily an accomplishment but being a Dad is something cool I wouldn’t trade for anything- fun and frustr

ating and exciting all at once.

10. What is your next goal? Dubs (the kind without spastic donkey kicks)

11. What is your favorite WOD you have done so far?  We did a WOD a few months back with running, wall balls, and flutter kicks that I liked a lot.

12. Free write: (anything else you would like to say)

I’m really glad I found T2 – I am being pushed/pushing myself harder and seeing progress as a result of great coaches and a great group of people to work out with every day (shout out to the 5:30 AM crew!).

Sending a huge Thank You to everyone who brought friends this week. I hope they had a great experience.

Coughs and Sneezes ….. diseases. Please, please, please, if you are coughing and/or sneezing, and you come to the gym, please use the antibacterial wipes to wipe down all of the equipment you touch, eg pvc pipe, rig, barbell, weights, clips, ….. We like it when you share ‘the love’ but not ‘cooties’. Thank you on behalf of everyone.

Saturday 9:00am Free Adult Community Class – open to members and non-members alike, all skill levels (none to expert) welcome and encouraged. A little hesitant? Come with a friend.

10:30am Members’ Only WOD These are a lot of fun. Meet members whom you wouldn’t normally see. Workout with a partner or in teams of 3. And don’t worry, as always movements are modifiable and scaleable.

Just when we thought winter was over, haha, the cold weather is coming back with a vengeance. Rain today and tomorrow plus ice and snow, and severely cold on Saturday and Sunday.

Be safe on the roads. Go Steelers.

T2 CrossFit Team

Outside The Box

I am trying something new here. There are many members who take part in/organize fundraising events. Some get posted on social media. As we know some members do not use social media so I wanted to share these events and good causes. If you have an event, let me know and I will include it.

Girl Scout cookies: it’s that time of year again.

Addison Tecza, Troop 46745  ::::  Stella Larence, Troop 16247

From Addison:  Attention lurongers, macro trackers and zone paleo followers : Again, the girl scouts are providing an option that you can buy the cookies but send them to the troops rather than having to eat them yourself.

All payments are due by January 25th and the cookies will be coming in mid February. I have left an envelope and cookie sheet by the computer! Just put your name and how many boxes and leave the money in the envelope! Checks payable to Troop46745

From Stella:  When you buy girl scout cookies, you’re helping to power new, unique and amazing experiences for girls.  Stella is part of troop 16247 which is 16 energetic girls from Sunset Hills in Mt. Lebanon.  Her favorite part is giving back to the community whether it’s singing carols at the senior center or delivering food to the food bank.  If you don’t want to have cookies around your house, Stella is happy to make sure your donations go to Operation Sweet Appreciation for our military.  I have placed a sheet on the community board.  Thank you for helping support Stella and her troop.

Lift-A-Thon:  Dan Blevins:

31 March 2018 raising money for the Veterans Leadership Program. Registration is free but participants are expected to raise money for the cause. https://www.classy.org/event/veterans-lift-a-thon-presented-by-cocoa-elite/e158677

‘Run For A Cure’:  Whitney Flemming:

I will be running the Pittsburgh Marathon Relay this year, on 6th May, as part of the “run for a cure” Pittsburgh group to raise money towards research to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. https://www.crowdrise.com/runtocurecf2018/fundraiser/whitneyfleming1#the-story

A friend of mine has a 3 year old boy with Cystic fibrosis and she has been working avidly on raising awareness. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene causes sever lung complications (along with other issues) leading to life-threatening lung infections.

In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further extended life for children and adults with CF, and now many with this disease can expect to live into their 30s, 40s.

*Probably no track on Sunday given the weather forecast.*
