Paul and Joanna Update:

We survived Hurricane Irma. We spent many hours and used up so much of our data plan, checking updates every 12 then 6 then 4 hours, watching her progress/the devastation she left in her wake. Please keep in your thoughts still all those affected by Irma.

We arrived at our ‘hurricane hole’ marina last Thursday and spent Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday adding additional dock lines, wrapping the chaff points with sacrificial cloth and removing or tying down anything on deck that might blow about/off the boat.

We were very lucky that Irma tracked westward just enough for us to get high end Tropical Storm winds rather than the Hurricane force that had been predicted. Even so, the winds we got were strong enough. Horizontal rain travelling at 65mph hurts really badly when it hits your eyeballs. And the rain beat so hard on one’s hood that it made it impossible to hear.

Most of you know by now that we did sustain some damage from a boat that drifted into ours. Next week we will begin our journey north again and have plans to put her in a boatyard for repairs. Paul has just told me that there are a couple more weather systems working their way across the Atlantic from Africa. Oh goody!!!
