Are you able to get more than 3 in succession? It’s never too late to learn; or relearn. Jumping rope, or Skipping as it was known when I was little and the dinosaurs were alive, has so many benefits. Whether or not you are able to do double-unders, just jump. It helps with coordination and balance, strengthens feet and ankles, and works both sides of the brain, consequently making you smarter. All you need is a decent jump rope and a little bit of space. Not only is it of benefit to you, it is something you can do with your family, kids, nieces/nephews etc.

If you want a real challenge, learn DUBs. It takes a whole lot of patience and even more practice but it is so rewarding once you get there.

Trivia: Skipping Records (Skipping For Your Health : Kidzworld)

  • In 1963, 71 year-old Tom Morris skipped 1264 miles (2022 km) from the city of Brisbaine to the city of Cairns in Australia!
  • In 1991, 120,115 people in Sweden all skipped together at the same time to celebrate Skipping Day.
  • The title of “fastest skipper” goes to Albert Rayner of Great Britain, who skipped a rope 128 times in 10 seconds in Birmingham, England in 1982.

(Not sure if this was singles or DUBs but either way, that’s a lot of jumps!! And what a challenge.)
