No, this isn’t about double-unders. And it certainly isn’t about Kate Hazy and Katlyn Taueetia, both of whom competed in different events last weekend.

Kate Hazy and team competed in the Patriot Games and finished 14th/40 teams.

Katlyn Taueetia and team competed in Weights for Wayne and finished 3rd (tied). Way to go, ladies and thank you for representing T2.

Re: your weakest link …..

You might not have considered this but maybe it is that your grip strength/how strong your hands are, could be having an impact on your CrossFit/constantly varied movements. Think about pull-ups, or deadlifts, or kettlebell swings. Quite often we have to stop because we just “can’t hold on any longer”.

Like all the muscles in our body, our hands and fingers need to be worked for them to be able to keep up and stay injury-free.

(Sarcopenia is the degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength associated with aging – often reflected in a loss of grip strength “Will you open this jar for me?”)

In a great article by Tabata Times: “Grip Strength: Get Your Crush On”, it talks about everything you need to know about grip strength and improving it.

“How your grip works:

Prime Mover: Crushing (power coming from your fingers); Pinching (power from your thumb)

Hand Position: Crushing, closed hand; Crushing, open hand; Pinching, closed hand; Pinching, open hand.

Intensity: 1-rep max effort; Endurance.

So what can you do to improve your grip strength and be able to use your whole hand and not just your fingers for pull-ups and deadlifts.

Towel Chin-ups
Plate Pinches
Power Holds
Bar Hang
Fat Bar Training

Finally, vary the equipment and use a lacrosse ball then get a massage for the soft tissue tightness you will develop in your neck, shoulders and arms while you build your grip strength.
